Vrindavan, 2019.05.09: A picture of Banke Bihari’s Akshaya Tritiya Darshan has gone viral on social media despite the fact that clicking pictures of the deity is forbidden in the temple. This breach of tradition has upset the temple management that has called for an enquiry into the matter.
Huge crowds gathered in the temple on Akshaya Tritiya which is the only day in the year when devotees are blessed with Banke Bihari’s ‘charan and sarvaang darshan’. The festival was celebrated on Tuesday, May 7.
Temple authorities suspect the involvement of ‘seva adhikaris’ (priests) in this matter because the pictures that have gone viral seem to suggest that they were clicked from inside the ‘garbha’ griha’ (inner sanctum). The ‘Charan Darshan’ picture clearly displays the ‘chandan laddu’ that is offered at the feet of Thakurji.
According to ex-secretary of the temple management committee, Shri Rajat Goswami, apart from the regular/main ‘seva adhikaris’ (priests) others were also present in the temple on Akshaya Tritiya. Without naming any particular person, he said that the act was ‘detestable’ and it being treated as grave violation of temple rules.
According to the rules of Banke Bihari temple, photography is prohibited in the premises. This is conveyed to the pilgrims by means of signages. On regular days with low footfall, security guards keep a tight check on pilgrims, and get any pictures that they are caught clicking, deleted on the spot.
