Vrindavan, 2019.03.13 (VT): The festival of Holi brings happiness to all, but more than anybody else, it is the widows of Vrindavan who wait for this festival every year. It is perhaps the only time in their otherwise mirthless lives when they get a chance to experience the colours of joy, celebration and freedom.
Widows at the Maitri Ghar Ashram situated near Pani Ghat celebrated the festival of Holi on Sunday, March 10. The day began with offering flowers and ‘Gulal’ to Thakurji, after which ‘Bhajans’ and Holi songs were played for His pleasure.
The widows danced to the sounds of drums, tambourine, cymbals and other musical instruments. As they played Holi with flowers and colours, they were joined by Ashray Sadan’s manager Vinni Singh, and helpers Yashoda Varma, Praveen, Priya, Amantram. General Bhupendra Singh distributed sweets among the ashram inmates.
